UFV is collaborating with the B.C. Centre for Schools and Communities to offer a professional development course called Assessing risk: Understanding violence potential in youth.

This educational opportunity will provide an introduction to the field of risk/threat assessment, intervention, and violence prevention, and assist participants to gain knowledge and tools for assessing violence potential among children and youth.

A particular emphasis will be placed on prevention strategies and intervention techniques, with a focus on multi-disciplinary, collaborative practices, Various psycho-social and developmental factors that contribute to aggression will be examined, along with an in-depth exploration of individual pathology, family, school, and social dynamics.

The course will assist participants in addressing violence along the continuum from high end violence, including school shootings, to bullying behaviours, while emphasizing the importance of building policies and practices that create safe school cultures.

This course is relevant for educators, police, health workers, university students, and those working in the non-profit sector (eg. Restorative Justice). The class is limited to 30 participants. Course cost is $600.
